The pilot focuses on the footwear manufacturing processes in the supply chain and aims at reducing the waste in the participating pilot factories to incineration or landfill by 25%. The pilot was launched in August 2019 and runs until December 2020.
The four main targets of the project are:
- To develop a baseline on waste management in footwear factories that captures how the factories manage their waste and measure improvements. Doing this, the project builds up a methodology to measure the waste flow in the factories.
- To develop a business case for each factory with a financial plan inclusive of return on investment (ROI) to drive better waste management.
- To build the capabilities of the participating suppliers by implementing best in class industrial practices that maximize the use of materials and reduce the output of waste to landfill or incineration.
- To drive industrial demand on waste recycling and connect manufacturers to formal waste handlers.
The FDRA represents 90% of the total U.S. footwear industry. The FDRA members Target, Steve Madden and Fila are involved in this pilot project.
Zero Manufacturing Waste to Landfill or Incineration in Footwear Suppliers
七月 2019 - 十二月 2020
The Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA) aims at measuring and reducing manufacturing waste to incineration or landfill in footwear factories in China. Together with the FDRA, BSD and ELEVATE are executing a pilot project with 26 selected factories in China, nominated by three FDRA members.
